Its that time of year alot of Summer Concert Tours have started like the well famed Club Paradise Tour 2012 w/ Drake, Jay Cole, Waka Flocka to name a few. Everyone one wants to get on tour as an Indie Artist, but its also that time of year for alot of scam tours.
Earlier this year & the late part of last year everyone remembers the Infamous “U Rock Tour” that was promising indie artists deals via thru DefJam, well as we all know how that went. After talking to Island DefJam reps they were not offering $50k Single deals & they were not sponsors of such tour.
Now we have another scam tour, this one is called “The Front Runner Tour based out of Cleveland,Ohio organized by Lisa Jett. This tour was to give Indie Artists to have Major Artist like Plies & other notables to open up on a 10 city tour. Starting in Atlanta, Shreveport, FortWorth, Houston, Los Vegas, Hollywood, Philly, Cleveland, Nyc & Phoenix. Im the barer of bad news again alot of indie artist have paid anywhere from $1500 to $2000 to sign up for the tour.
Now everyone is finding out this is Non-Refundable! I have an artist that didn’t have to pay the set up fee, but once he signed the contract. He cancelled his other paid show dates with the impression that he was going to get paid $28k. Now he is just not out of the tour money but he is also out of the other show money that he cancelled. Indie Artist the lesson to be learned here to do your home work, always check for any (PR) thats press releases, if a proper press release was put out believe me the Major artists & labels would make sure there is Media info & radio aware of anywhere the artist will be.
